AmiToday is Shareware which means that you are allowed to copy it as much as
you want (but not modify or exclude any of the files included), but if you use
it for more than 3 weeks you must pay the fee. See below for details.
However you do not have to be registred for sending me mail. Although I might
not care much about you opinions if you have not registered.
Disclaimer: se below.
AmiTODAY is a small program for reminding you of birthdays and other important
events. With the data-files you can get a small history lesson once a day, like
birthdays of famous persons. Or exact dates of special events. The files are
also useful if you are searching for the date when something happed. You can
also create special birthday-cards, like:
-----------------------------------------
On the 6:th of July has many fasmous been born like:
1927 Janet Leigh in Calif, Maybe I won't take a shower with her
1932 Della Reese, singer in Detroit
1937 Ned Beatty, actor.
1937 Vladimir Ashkenazy, concert pianist.
1946 Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Rambo)
1952 Shelly Hack, Charlie's Angel
and you, my friend!
-----------------------------------------
The best way to use it is by installing these two lines in startup-sequence or
user-startup:
assign TODAY: where-you-keep-the-datafiles
AmiToday
or as a single line:
AmiToday DIR where-you-keep-the-datafiles
What options are there:
? or HELP Shows a short reminder of the options available.
ALT Alternate file. Default is TODAY with name of month as extension.
If you specify MUSIC the program will use the file "TODAY:MUSIC"
plus this months extension.
The files for fortune-cookies and your personal file (TODAY.OWN)
will not be used when using the ALT option.
AFTER Will only show events ON or AFTER the year specified.
BEFORE The opposite for AFTER.
These two can be combined to show only events for a specified
period like WW2 or exclude that specific period of time.
Reminders will not be affected by these options.
CLEAR Will clear the window and start printing at the top.
LINES Specifies how many lines to show before the computer takes a coffee-
break (waits for you to press Enter).
Numbers below 5 and above 200 is not accepted. Default is 23.
NOPAUSE Make no breaks. For use at BBSes and such.
BIRTHDAYS Suppresses birthdays.
FORTUNES -"- fortune cookies.
REMINDERS -"- reminders.
SPECIAL -"- special events.
These options can be combined to show only a special kind of events
like reminders or birthdays.
DIR To specify where the data-files are kept. Default is TODAY:
You do not have to write the full name of the option, only as much as needed
for it to be uniq. For example BIRTHDAYS can be written BI but not B as that
could be mixed up with BEFORE.
An example for showing musicians born between 1920 and 1930 on the 17:th of may:
AmiTODAY 0517 ALT MUSIC BEFORE 1930 AFTER 1920
How to create your private TODAY.OWN !
The file TODAY.OWN is supposed to contain your private reminders. You use any
editor that can save a "clean" file. A "clean" file is one that contains no
extra info about fonts, styles and such.
Here is the structure of the file:
First an entry for a Birthday:
B07071970 Jonas Svensson
B07071970CThe Creator of AmiToday.
^ Specify the entry as an birthday.
^^ Month
^^ Day
^^^^ Year
^ The "C" says that this is a continuation of the previous line.
And therefore the year will not be shown.
Special evant as built the same way but preceded by an "E" instead of an "B".
And fortune cookies (the file TODAY.WIT") is the same but no year specified.
At last but not least there is the reminder:
R07010706 The birthday of Jonas Svensson is on the 7:th
^ Specify the entry as an birthday.
^^ Month
^^ Day to begin
^^ Month
^^ Day to stop
This will show a reminder every day from the 1:st of July to the 6:th.
The shareware-fee is US$10. For an additional US$5 I will send you the latest
version and my full set of data-files. DO NOT send any personal cheques.
DO send an postal money order (PMO) or an EuroCheque payable to
Jonas Svensson in Swedish Crowns. Or send me bill for the amount (only accepted
in US$/GBP/Swedish Crowns) if you don't mind the risk. That should be quite
safe anyway. You may choose to stuff some more papers around the bill to
raise the security.
Scandinavian users may pay to "PostGiro": 426 07 49-9
